Film Forum’s legendary West Village cinema took shape on the first floor of a 1920s printing building in 1990. Twenty-eight years later, the connoisseur presenter of classics and independent film once again turned to Stephen Tilly to oversee a major expansion and renovation. Careful not to intrude on the sensibilities of ardent fans, the STA team converted a former loading dock into a fourth theater, reconfigured the existing theaters to accommodate new stadium seating to improve comfort and sightlines, upgraded interior finishes and mechanical systems, and incorporated electronic video displays into the lobby. The outcome received rave reviews.
