MUSIC CONSERVATORY OF WESTCHESTER
ADAPTIVE REUSE
The Helen Demetrios and Michael Stadther Recital Hall
White Plains, NY
For the Music Conservatory of Westchester, STA fitted a recital hall, elegant lobby, 43 music studios and practice rooms, music therapy center, dance studios and administrative offices into a fully renovated 36,000 square foot 1950 commercial building, formerly home to the Department of Motor Vehicles—a karmic change. Box-within-a-box acoustic separations between all music areas, isolation and insulation of supply and return ducts, quadruple exterior glazing of recital hall windows and accessibility via lift to the stage and music therapy rooms combine to reinforce the professionalism of this community music and performance center serving 2500 students from toddlers to the seniors. A dynamic design injects sparkle into a carefully-budgeted non-profit facility.
