DRAPER PARK
COMMUNITY
Hastings on Hudson, NY
For the Village of Hastings, STA planned the future of this 9.11-acre park, with its five nineteenth century structures in a sloping landscape setting. John and Henry Draper, intellectuals of the era, advanced understanding of the skies and terrestrial and astronomical photography. STA prepared reports to guide auction of four houses, execution of ground leases and a mechanism of controls to protect the historic character of the houses. The Observatory Cottage, restored under STA guidance with an archive addition that recycles the exact dimensions of the original observatory, remains Village property and now houses the Hastings Historical Society.
