Clients with California roots came to work in New York and found a quirky 1950s brick house with a curved plan. They needed a pool, which we tucked into the curve, adding walls for privacy and sun capture, and they needed pleasant places to live and eat outdoors in good weather. Stainless steel cables slung between masonry columns carry trumpet vines and flowers for shade in daytime, and lighting fixtures illuminate evening feasts and parties. An addition with a glass wall provides year-round indoor enjoyment and views up the river and beyond it to other counties.
