SALUDA RIVER HOUSE
NEW CONSTRUCTION
Lexington, SC
The steel company owner who commissioned this solar house supplied framing materials, including the columns that lift the body of the house out of the 100-year flood plain along the Saluda River. In winter the massive red wall is heated by the greenhouse by day and in turn heats the building by night. In summer the wall is shaded by a dense stand of native Water Oaks to defray cooling requirements.
