COLDEN MANSION HERITAGE PARK

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Capping, buttressing, bridging and structural frames secure the building.

Town of Montgomery, NY

The stabilized ruins of a 1767 stone mansion will be the centerpiece of a park celebrating the contributions of the Cadwallader Colden family to the colony and young nation. STA directed preservation strategies to capture the ruin at a moment in its decline, suggesting its former stature but also demonstrating loss. Permanent shoring, historically correct repointing and capping of exposed walls render the site secure for visitation and interpretation.
